PMU staff participated in the Regional Workshop on Land Acquisition and Land Acquisition Reforms, held from 11โ€“13 May 2026 (Online)

In line with the demand for Environmental and Social (E&S) training for the PMU staff, during the Mission in March 2025, and upon the invitation of Mr. Susrutha Goonasekera, Senior Social Development Specialist, the PMU staff participated online in the Regional Workshop on Land Acquisition and Land Acquisition Reforms, held from 11โ€“13 May 2026.

Structural mitigation projects of landslides are often closely associated with privately owned lands, state lands, and other public properties. The implementation of structural remedial measures presents considerable challenges, particularly due to the social and economic impacts borne by affected individuals, communities, and the Government of Sri Lanka during and after disasters.

The workshop provided a valuable learning experience by enhancing knowledge on the Land Acquisition, legal requirements in the different counties in the region, and related funding agencies. It created an opportunity to gain new insights, improve professional skills, and better understand current practices and challenges relevant to the field. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and knowledge sharing with experts and participants, the training strengthened the ability to apply learned concepts effectively in future work activities. It also contributed to personal and professional development by improving confidence, communication, and problem-solving skills.
